John Chow Seymour Title Graphic

>> Two-Channel Audio, 53s

The first 15 seconds of the piece, compressed to MP3.

To gather the concrète material for this piece I made a field recording of myself knocking on as many different surfaces as I could find in my house (walls, doors, cabinets, etc.) with a variety of implements (knuckle, fist, a piece of wood, etc.). These elements were then assembled in Logic into a rhythm characterized by a few simple motives.

Each 'note' in this pattern is a unique event and has its own timbre, over 400 in all.
Added to this is material gathered by striking a variety of ceramic or glass objects, mostly tableware. To contrast with the knocking part, these were assembled into a few gestures and are the same every time they are heard.
